Help wanted - Kingdom Rapier Marshal 1/18/2023
- Details
Greetings unto the Outlands, and to the rapier community specifically!
I have greatly enjoyed my term as Kingdom Rapier Marshal. I've enjoyed meeting and fencing so many of you, and working to make sure that my office has addressed your concerns positively. I've seen the kingdom re-open from pandemic closure, witnessed not one but two new authorization methods, revised the ruleset (and submitted another revision), and streamlined the inclusion of requested improvements to those rules. It's been rewarding having the chance to hold a dialog via my Wednesday Facebook posts, which have led to a number of positive discussions.
That said, all good things must came to an end. My term is up in July, and as such, I will require a successor. Per Outlands law, I am announcing my impending term-end several months in advance, to give the populace a chance to apply for this position, and offer the successful candidate the chance to get a little while seeing how the office works before stepping up. The position is largely an administrative one, and one which requires understanding the rules as well as interpreting them when needed. One should be comfortable being a marshal, keen to champion and improve upon the rules, and be comfortable answering to the office of the Earl Marshal and the Crown.
Thus, I invite those gentles who would apply for the position of Kingdom Rapier Marshal forward letters of intent and qualifications to myself at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and to the Earl Marshal at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. It is my intent to step down at Battlemoor, so we will accept applications through April 1st (no foolin'), and hopefully announce a decision for SCA New Years on or around May 1st.

We need this roster to be able to communicate updates and news from the Marshalate to you, as well as reach out to you about tournament results on all fields. Your service is deeply appreciated- but we want to be sure we know of it and receive word!
All those interested in being a MOL (or continuing to be) should email the Kingdom MOL at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. In your email, please include the following things to be added to the roster:
Your SCA name (We need to know who you are!)
Your SCA membership number
Your local group (We need to know where you are!)
The email you would like to be contacted about MOL business at
A phone number in case email fails us
Interested in being a MOL but you never have been before? Write our Kingdom MOL at the email address above and I am certain she would love to tell you all about the position! Mistresses and Ministers of the Lists are the martial record keepers of our Kingdom- running tournaments alongside the Marshals and reporting those results back to the Marshalate for publishing!
Applicants for the MOL roster will have until January 31st to contact the Kingdom MOL before the roster is published. You will be able to find it on StagsApp just the same as you would look up Local Authorizing Marshals! Anyone who misses the deadline isn’t barred from joining of course- just know that you will need to be on the roster (so that we can hear of your good works and let you know of changes and updates!) before you can fill a seat in this wonderful office.
Without you, everything is just practice-
Sincerely, Sir Ronan na f-fiacal mac Connail

Unto the Glorious Kingdom of the Outlands do We, Jaxarticus and Anna, Rex and Regina Outlandium, bid thee all a heartfelt thank you and a fond Farewell.
Last Spring we were blessed with the Honor of becoming King and Queen of this amazing Kingdom. During this time, We traveled the from the stretching Pines of Windkeep, down to the Standing stones of the City of rock. We visited with old friends and made new ones. There had been something off coming back from the plague times, but eventually we saw the magic reappear before our eyes. We witnessed the Honor, Courtesy, and Valor of our populace Throughout the Known World. The Outlands Warbands traveled from coast to coast. Our victories were many, our losses few, and as always, a valuable lesson. Old alliances were kept as we battled alongside Calontir on the fields of Pennsic. The Kingdom of Atendveldt and the Outlands stood together as the mighty force “Outenveldt” at Great Western War, fighting for the Principality of the Mist and The Kingdom of the West. Incredible Adventures were had and thus we have all of you to thank.
We would especially like to Thank the following people; Sir Slaine, Our Head of household, who kept this all moving along despite my best attempts to thwart well made plans. Mistress Bri, Our Mistress of the Robes, she did an amazing job, as did her entire staff of helpers who came from many Kingdoms to keep us so well dressed. The Queen’s Champion Duke Boleslav, whose sharp spear and wit were welcome company on our many adventures. My Champion Sir Adrian and the “Lone Guardsman” Sir MacBain were at my side battle after battle. Baroness Maria and THLady Hrefna for helping make sure we were attended and cared for. Don Eago for being the ultimate Queen’s guardsman. Master Duncan and all the Heralds who made our courts possible and timely. Earl Mordygan for traveling the known world and helping us wherever we were. And of course, Nero, my faithful hound, who kept our home safe along with Luna his personal service dog.
Many people throughout the Kingdom greeted us with a smile and a helping hand on our journeys and we wish we could have done even more, but Alas our time is done. It is our time to support our Heirs, and in turn, this great Kingdom. When we work together, we are stronger and better. And We can always be better.
Thank you all, We wish you the best, may health and adventure be yours. It has been a privilege to serve this Kingdom, and We look forward to the many years to come. Who Knows, We might be back, one of the perks of being immortal.

Forgive my absence as my skills are needed elsewhere on occasion. Her Royal Majesty is amazing and always prepared for my absence. Please know I will always return home, to the Kingdom of the Outlands.
We look forward to a season of celebration and revelry. We have had excellent success in our war-like endeavors and as such we should enjoys these times of Peace, but always…always prepare for War!
With this in mind I’d hope to see all our SCA communities prepare for this. Archery, Fencing, A and S, equestrian and service are all areas that deserve our attention. Certainly I love armored combat but I understand that this alone does not make our Kingdom whole.
It will take all of us to work together. It will take all of us setting aside petty arguments. It will take all of us to make the Greatest Kingdom the Known World has ever seen even better than we are now.
So I call upon you to ask yourselves, can we not be better? Can We try a little harder? Train a little harder? Give that extra effort all for just the chance to make ourselves that much better. I think we can and I’ll tell you something. We are worth it. Everyday we breathe this precious air it gives a chance to right wrongs, fix a problem, strive a little more. Why wouldn’t we?
War of the Phoenix is on the horizon. So let’s ready ourselves. Their Royal Highness’s will need our spears, swords, and arrows. Let’s be ready for their call and continue to be the best we can.
We look forward to seeing you through the Kingdom and remember, Adventure awaits, be ready for it.

From the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Minister
Greeting Outlands!
First of all, I would like to address the oral tradition guidelines set out by the Society Arts and Sciences Minister and then I’ll talk about a call for the next Kingdom Arts and Sciences Minister. Since there are many cultures within the SCA time period that include much oral history which was not written down at the time, the Society has come up with guidelines for including these oral traditions in the arts and sciences. I encourage everyone to read the guidelines and use them when writing documentation or judging in arts and science competitions. You can find the guidelines at: https://www.sca.org/news/guidelines-for-the-recognition-and-approval-of-oral-tradition-in-the-arts-and-sciences/
It has been my privilege to serve the kingdom for coming up on two years and is therefore time for me to allow someone else to learn the office with the expectation of taking the office in April. Letters of interest are due December 1 to the Crown, Kingdom Seneschal, and the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences. Include your SCA resume and any other relevant experience. Tell us what you would like to do with the office and why you think you would be the best candidate. The office requires at least 4 hours a month of answering emails, updating documents, and general paperwork. Attendance at a monthly kingdom officer meeting is required and a monthly meeting with local arts and science officers is recommended. Quarterly reports to the Society officer are required and should be forwarded to the kingdom seneschal and crown. Monthly OH articles are recommended. Special projects make up much the rest of your time working on the office. You should expect to attend kingdom arts and sciences competitions and collegia as well as Queen’s Prize Tourney. As Kingdom Arts and Sciences Minister, you will be responsible for overseeing these competitions as well as the Royal Outlands Interkingdom University.
I look forward to seeing the applications and to training the next Kingdom Arts and Sciences Minister.
In service,
Marion Forester

Bug spray! There is a gorgeous river running through the site which brings in those little guys be prepared! If you are traveling from the north be aware that the exit you take for the event does not have a gas station or any other store. Crown Tournament is truly a back to nature event!
The Crown Tournament site is everything amazing Colorado has to offer, tree groves, grass, and a river.
Many hours have been spent clearing Russian olives and other spiky bushes but please be aware this is NOT a paved site, it has been cleared for camping and day shades, has walking paths, dirt roads (that have been smoothed out), a beautiful river running through site with a walking bridge for easy access to the parking area.
Once parked you will walk down a path and all mundanity (except privies and hand washing stations) will be left behind, you will enjoy the tournament in the splendor of nature!
Pray attend a few notes to better enjoy your event;
The site owner has requested all vehicles be parked in the designated parking area only, there are no exceptions to this. The parking area will be clearly marked and a map will be available before the event so you have a better idea before arriving where to park, as always, any gate worker can assist if you are unclear where the parking area is located.
Once you check in you will be directed to an access road that leads to a drop off area if you are camping. Please be sure to check in first as the gate keeper will be checking for site tokens at this entrance.
Sturdy shoes are highly suggested. Leashed dogs are welcome, please be aware that this is grazing land with cow pies for rolling in a plenty.
Please attend children while they are exploring the river. It is not a fast moving river but it is a river with its own unique dangers.
Please use your best judgment for whether your vehicle is up to the challenge of a dirt road, this road has been tested with small cars and trucks but please keep your speed down to maintain the integrity of the road.
The weather looks great but there is still time for things to change. A high of 80 and low of 47 is currently expected.
Don’t have a sunshade, or don’t have room to bring it? No problem the tourney will be taking place in a grove of trees! Bring your chairs but don’t stress about shade!
Feel free to reach out with questions, comments or concerns. We are excited to share this amazing land with the Populace and all the fun activities in addition to the tournament that have been planned.
Please bring your banners and flags! And see you in 10 short days!
We remain yours, committed to an epic Crown Tournament,
Baroness Nereida and Countess Nerissa

Kingdom of the Outlands COVID policy 8/24/2022
- Details
With the update to the Covid Policy it was our recommendation that Outlands restrictions be lifted. It is up to the federal, state, and county guidelines, along with the CDC and WHO, to determine what activities are safe to resume under the current conditions in that area. We are not an actual governing body but a historical recreation group. Every member is responsible for their own safety, and they are the ultimate regulator for their own defense.
We highly recommend using tried and true methods to stop the spread of the virus, such as; Hand sanitizer, temperature checks, regular washing of hands, social distancing, masking and quarantine when necessary.
Each group should follow the local guidelines set forth in their area and we should all work together to be safe. Most importantly, If you are sick, Stay Home. Flu, Covid, or otherwise. It’s the ultimate safety net. You may be missed but it’s better for everyone in the long run.
We understand these are new times for all of us with difficult choices. Please be kind and courteous to others in the choices they make.
Let’s keep working together to build a better SCA for everyone.

Beloved Outlanders,
We are delighted to address you, and hope these words find you in pleasant company and good health. These words are difficult to compose, and so please be patient as We try to frame our thoughts. The future of this kingdom and the SCA as a whole is bright indeed, and We are excited to see what comes next. We have had the great honor and joy to see many newcomers arrive to Our court. From the southern deserts to the northern peaks, new faces and new hopes are blooming. This game is a haven to many and varied walks of life, and we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and welcoming society. This is evident in the sheer number of people who have arrived and subsequently stayed around over the last few decades. But it is important to acknowledge that not everyone’s introduction to this society is as frictionless and welcoming as some of our own experiences. Some of the reasons for this are unavoidable, differences of personalities and opinions exist, and we aren’t guaranteed to meet those who will become our family right away.
It takes a non-trivial amount of time and effort to engage in this game… motivation and inspiration aren’t always enough to get someone to participate. In some cases it would only take one or two negative experiences to persuade someone that their time would be better spent elsewhere. As the culture and society evolve, we must consistently evaluate those changes and be mindful of the shifts. It is true that we can only take responsibility for ourselves, and we can never control the reactions of others, but we can monitor ourselves (and others) during our communications to learn and observe how we are being perceived. This is not a one time fix, one can not simply realize the perfect way to interact with everyone and then rest upon their wisdoms… It is a process, a never ending course correction due to new input and experience. What works for one will not necessarily work for another, and the difference is being genuine with each person on their own account, and being ready to respond to their specific cues.
This means that we should shy away from falling into familiar patterns when we meet and interact with new people. This could be someone who is new to the game, new to the kingdom, or just new to you. Take the time to establish a rapport, engage enough to learn the boundaries of consent. We are proud of our people and our kingdom for how they have risen to the challenge of resuming activity again. Love abounds, and excitement is high. We do not wish to dim these tidings, but neither should we passively move forward without thought.
There have been a number of interactions across the kingdom in the last few months, and while they are isolated incidents, and vary in severity, they all stem from a lack of clear communication. This is due to a lack of observation of how the interaction was received, both factually, and emotionally. This indicates that some of our communication requires assessment and attention. As We have said, this is an ongoing process, and all of us cannot get to where we want to be without going there together. Be mindful always, especially in those cases where you do not know the person you are interacting with, and together we can create as safe and welcoming of an environment as possible. We have every confidence in this kingdom, and its people, and We hope that everyone out there considers these words at least a little.
Be well,
Sultan Barekr Khan

Announcing StagsApp!
- Details
Good Morning!
I would like to make the below as an official announcement on behalf of the marshalate to the populace of The Outlands:
Hail to the Glorious Outlands and to those who follow their martial passions!
It is with an overjoyed heart that I am able to announce the launching of “StagsApp”, a new digital record for martial authorizations across the kingdom. It is the culmination of many, many hours of work- with still some work to be done. It is currently available on Android devices and will be available on IOS in the future, once that “lovely” company is appeased. Outlanders of all martial pursuits can find their authorizations and their applicable handbooks on the App.
What does it do?
StagsApp has a real time database of authorizations. Simply look up the activity and find your SCA name- A green mark means you are up to date and a red mark means your authorization is expired and needs to be updated! You can also find links to all of the Society and Kingdom handbooks on the App, as well as a tab to find who is an authorizing marshal in your nearest local group. It’s gets better! Authorizing Marshals will be able to update your authorization via the App- no more needing to send in cards and reports as it can all be done digitally.
Why isn’t my name on the database?
Well, probably because you are not authorized! Even if you have a Pink Card from an authorizing marshal, if they do not report to the marshalate that you were authorized that piece of pink paper means nothing at all. Having an up-to-date roster of martial participants is required by Society, and protects the game we love in the case of accidents. If your name isn’t on the database, just find a marshal and reauthorize (correctly this time) and you can let the Office of the Earl Marshal know who incorrectly authorized you before so that we can ensure it does not happen to more unsuspecting participants in the future.
Why is my name marked red?
There are three reasons a name may be marked as red or expired: 1- Your authorization has expired! 2- Your membership expiration that you gave the authorizing marshal has expired. You need to have a membership to participate in marshal activities (You cannot authorize nonmembers) and as such, no authorization can be valid without a valid “Blue Card”. When you reauthorize, give your new Blue Card info to your authorizing marshal and they will get this squared away. 3- You have had your authorization pulled- if this has happened you probably know why your name is marked red!
How can I be an authorizing marshal?
All the martial branches have their own systems for being an authorizing marshal. You can contact the Marshalate Sub-Officer of your activity (Equestrian, Rapier, Archery/Thrown, or Armored) with more questions. For Armored Combat (Heavies) we will need to refresh our roster for the app. Those interested in becoming (or continuing to be) authorizing marshals for heavy combat should email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the “Subject” line of “Petition for Armored Combat Marshal”. To be an armored combat marshal you must be a paid member of the SCA, have an active Armored Combat authorization, be in good standing with the marshalate, and have demonstrated your ability to safely authorize combatants (usually in the form of an interview or prior knowledge of ability from the current Marshalate).
Where can I find this Miracle App?
It can currently be found in the Google Play store under the name “StagsApp”. We will announce when it is available upon fruit-based devices.
Thank you everyone for your contributions to the marshalate of These Mighty Outlands!
In Service,
Sir Ronan na f-fiacal mac Connail

Thank you so much for your desire to attend Caerthen Twelfth Night. At this time, we would like to offer a refund of your pre-registration. Obviously, we can all look forward to an especially festive Twelfth Night in 2023!
With much gratitude and affection,

Our glorious people! Know that Our love for you is deep as the oceans, and steadfast in Our heart. We would care for you as a mother wolf her young. But even now His Majesty can feel the weight of time upon Him, the wounds that now only ache, may soon begin to overtake Him. Thusly shall We do Our duty, and find for you fit and sufficient heirs, that We might lay Our heads upon Our pillow in peaceful sleep, knowing Our lands will prosper under strong, and august leadership.
Rise! And rejoice! For soon the Stag will have a new son, and a new daughter. Before spring is fully upon us we will know their faces, and drink of their company. Please come and join Us, Our wonderful populace, for We shall have food and drink aplenty, and there shall be much to celebrate.
If you find in yourself the heart of the stag, if you find your arm possesses the strength to vie for the throne, and if you bear the favor of one who would rule with justice and wisdom by your side, then I beseech you to submit your letter of intent to contend in Our crown tournament! It shall be held in Our lands to the south, in Blackwater Keep and We urge you to bring your camp and join Us around both campfire and tourney field if you are able.
Letters of intent should contain all information required by Kingdom Law and you must be able to affirm all that is required of you is met by Our Crown tournament. Letters of intent are due no later than April 1st - April fools jokes will be considered valid submissions.
Please see the official Crown Tournament event page (https://events.outlands.org/2022-spring-crown-tournament/) for details about camping and site rules/requirements. Please be cognizant and respectful of the requirements set out.
Thus do we seek out Our Heirs!

Caerthe 12th Night announcement 1/6/2022
- Details
Good people of the Outlands hear Us.
It is with great sadness that We announce after consulting with Their Excellencies, Caerthe’s Seneschal and the Caerthe 12th Night Event steward, that Caerthe 12th Night is postponed at this time. This is an agonizing message to write after all everyone has been through but the health and welfare of Our Kingdom is Our primary concern. With the current state of Covid ravishing the Northern part of Our Kingdom We can not in good conscience have an indoor event at this time. This decision was not made lightly. We want to thank the event stewards and all of their staff for their efforts in planning what We are sure would have been a spectacular event.
As a reminder Coronation will be held outdoors next weekend 1/15/2022 in the Barony of Citadel of the Southern Pass at Camp Tyler Francis, 3400 Girl Scout Ln, Sunland Park, NM 88063. Please be safe while traveling and We look forward to celebrating the next chapter in Outlands history.
Yours in continued service to the Outlands,

Good evening Outlands!
As explained in the video announcement (YoutTube link), the Outlands, in consultation with the Kingdom seneschal will adopt the society boards covid vaccine policy effective October 1st, 2021. While the timing is unfortunate (with Crown Tournament happening this weekend) We believe that this is the best path forward for the Outlands, to keep everyone as safe as possible while we continue to battle this horrific pandemic.
There is still time to get covid tested if you are not fully vaccinated, however if you feel that this new policy changes your plans for the weekend a full refund will be granted. Again We apologize for the timing but it was outside of Our control. If you have questions regarding the policy itself or have commentary on the policy please feel free to reach out to the Society at SCA.org, they will also have a FAQ sheet about the policy available on the website. If you have questions about how this policy applies to the Outlands please feel free to contact either Ourselves (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Christine, the Kingdom Seneschal (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
To further keep everyone safe We are also requiring mask indoors starting October 1st, 2021. Many counties are already requiring them for indoor activity and We feel compelled to follow the science and also require them. Activity is defined as any official SCA activity (practices, business meetings, A&S gatherings, etc) We took an oath to protect and defend the Outlands at our coronation and We are going to continue to let science not feelings guide these decisions.
We are excited to celebrate the next chapter of Outlands history this weekend. Please travel safely so We can celebrate with you!
We remain yours in service,
Béla and Nerissa

Announcement on Estrella War 7/13/2021
- Details
Greetings unto the populace of Atenveldt, Outlands and all brethren to whom these letters may come.
Heavy are the heads that wear crowns and guide our beloved kingdoms. Great are the responsibilities of the officers as they manage their duties. Blessed are the populace who benefit from the strongest brotherhood of kingdoms in the known world: the friendship between Atenveldt and the Outlands!
Hear this missive from the Crowns of Atenveldt, the Crowns of the Outlands, the Seneschals, Exchequers, and Financial Committees of each of our kingdoms.
It is with somber hearts that we share news of Estrella: declining attendance, poor weather, consequences of a pandemic, and a new site, have hindered attempts to make this historic inter-kingdom war financially viable. We strongly considered delaying Estrella for one more year, however, financially it is not feasible under the current conditions. Therefore, we have decided to retire our plans for Estrella War as we currently know it.
More information is located at the Kingdom of Atenveldt's website located https://www.atenveldt.org/?p=232683 and on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8teYEcZr-k4
Letter to the Kingdom from the Crown of the Outlands - 6/24/2021
- Details
Good people of the Outlands hear these words from Béla and Nerissa, King and Queen of these fair lands.
We know that everyone is excited to be able to gather again at practices and events and We know that it is confusing with how quickly some rules have been changing as we all move forward with reopening. We know this can be frustrating and We assure you that Our Landed Nobles, Officers, and event stewards are all working hard to make it possible for all of us to have fun at events. We want to take a moment to thank everyone who continues to serve the Kingdom and help make it possible for all of us to gather again. We also wanted to take a moment to try to clear some things up moving forward.
Currently, and until the end of June, masks are required at any and all official SCA functions in the Kingdom of the Outlands. All functions must be outdoors and you must pre-register to attend. There is an attendance cap of 150 people, no camping is allowed and there can be no shared food or drink. These current rules were mandated by the Board of Directors and must be followed at all times. We appreciate how well the Outlands has done at following these rules and We are proud of how the Outlands has responded to the pandemic.
As of July 1st, a lot of the BoD mandated rules are being rescinded and things will be more like they used to be. We will no longer require masks for activities but We encourage those who wish to continue to wear them to do so. We will be able to meet indoors again and overnight camping will be allowed. We will still not be able to share food or drink so no feasts or water stations will be allowed. The attendance cap will be per local mandates and guidelines and must be followed at all times. In the Outlands We will still be requiring pre-registration for events but will not require it for practices, guild meetings or populace meetings. The pre-registration for events is not a permanent thing but will be in use for the foreseeable future as We feel this will greatly help Our landed nobles, officers and event stewards be better prepared to host the best events possible. This will also give all of us time and practice to get used to how the SCA registration system works so that things will run more smoothly when it is used for larger Kingdom events in the future. We understand there are some bugs to work out in the system and this is exactly why we are trying to work them out now and not just for Battlemoor. We thank you all for continuing to work with Our officers and volunteers to make things as efficient as possible.
As always, when things change look to the Kingdom webpage, newsletter and various social media pages for the official information from the Crown or Kingdom Seneschal. If you are confused or can’t find the information you are looking for, please reach out to your local seneschal to help clear things up.
We see that the Kingdom Calendar is starting to fill up with events again and this fills Our hearts with joy! We are so excited to be able to go to events again and to be with you all!
Until We see each other again, please continue to be kind, courteous, and remember to look out for each other.
In Service to the Outlands We remain,

Estrella War update 6/5/2021
- Details
Greetings Unto the Known World!
As the terrible foe is beaten slowly into submission, it is with great joy that We are able to announce that as of this time, pending local regulations, law enforcement and health services requirements, Estrella War will be happening this November! War this year is scheduled to occur November 9th through the 15th at Country Thunder Ranch in Florence, Arizona. For up to date information about the event, please visit the War website, estrellawar.org
It is the intention of everyone on the War staff to get pre-reg up and running as quickly as possible, so that we can begin to plan for the largest volunteer run War in the Society! A few things will need to change regarding pre-reg, and are important to note: first, ALL attendees must pre-register. This is a Society requirement, and there will be no exceptions. Next, attendance this year will be capped to ensure that we are able to provide the appropriate services for all attendees. Finally, there will be a minimum number of pre-registrations required to allow the War to move forward. This is an effort to protect the War from potential low turnout, which could have a negative effect on the future of the War.
Please note that COVID has changed the landscape of how we are able to function, and as such, has created additional amenities that we will need to provide in order to help ensure that participants are as safe as possible at War. Those amenities include but are not limited to: additional showers, additional privies, handwashing stations, sanitizer stations, and increased cleaning schedules for the above items. To that end, there will be a non-refundable COVID surcharge this year at War. It is our sincere hope that this will be a temporary addition, and that we are able to reduce or eliminate it in years to come.
We know that there are some things that are changing the way we participate at War, but We are confident that you are all as excited as We are to make this year’s return to War one that We can all look back on with fond memories, as We begin to build new traditions and continue to honor those that make us all what We are.
We are sure that you may have questions as we move closer to War, and to help with that, We are currently developing FAQs, which will be posted on the Estrella War website and updated frequently. Please refer to that document regularly to get the latest updated information as it becomes available.
We can’t wait to see you all!

Kingdom of the Outlands Reopening Plan

Greetings Outlanders,
With June quickly upon us we look forward to seeing everyone in person. We still have guidelines to follow until July and at this time we will be following our strategy posted below. Please note, this is still a very fluid situation and changing weekly, so we will have to adjust our plans.
To that effect, please be patient with your local seneschal and officers. They are doing their best in a tough situation. Working together we will get through it. I would like to send a special Thank you to the Kingdom seneschal team and local Seneschals. Hang in there.
The following is our current reopening strategy. Plead note we are still under the old BOD guidance (Below) until July.
I look forward to seeing you in person soon.

Kingdom of the Outlands Reopening Plan
FACTORS CONSIDERED BEFORE REOPENING
- ·Kingdom and Local groups will use all available information to make data-driven decisions to begin in person activity. Decisions to begin to resume in person activity will be informed by whether the state or community in which the group is located has met their criteria for opening to the appropriate level, BOD directives, and current CDC guidelines.
- ·Local groups will work with the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal to determine if they can open and what the COVID19 gathering precautions and reporting requirements will be.
PHASES OF REOPENING
For the purpose of this document, practices are reoccurring regular gatherings. Events are gatherings held one time.
GATING PERIOD- There will be no official in person activities.

If anyone who has not been vaccinated has flu-like symptoms within 2 weeks, they should report to the local Seneschal so that they can contact the local Health Department.
- ·Outdoor Practices: Local Seneschals can open in person practice. Practices will be allowed when the local (based on where the practice is held) mandates allow for numbers sufficient to practice. Letter to the Kingdom from the Crown of the Outlands - 4/3/2021
- Details
Good people of the Outlands hear these words from your Crown, Béla and Nerissa.
As you know by now the Board of Directors has decided to lift the ban on in person events and activities starting on June 1st. This means that as of that date Kingdoms may start to host events with the restrictions laid out by the Board of Directors and following any and all local mandates and guidelines. We would like to take a moment and say thank you to all the members of the Board of Directors and all the Society officers and volunteers who have been working diligently to keep the SCA as safe as possible during this pandemic.
We would like to take a moment and make a few things very clear. The announcement by the Board does not go into effect until June 1st. This means that until then the Outlands is still in the Gated Phase of the reopen plan which means no in person activities are allowed at this time. We will continue to work with Our officers, Landed Nobles, and autocrats, and We will continue to monitor the ever-changing status of guidelines and mandates throughout the Kingdom to determine when it is safe for the Outlands to move to Phase One of reopening. When We feel it is safe to do so We will make an announcement to let everyone know that the Outlands has changed phases in the reopen plan. All changes will be posted on the Kingdom Webpage and on the various social media pages as well as being published in the Outlandish Herald. We would encourage any health care professionals who would like to help with setting protocols in place and training everyone on how to implement them, to contact your local seneschal the Kingdom Seneschal or Ourselves so that We may hear your advice and counsel.
As we move forward and start to have in person activities it will be imperative that everyone abides by the rules and guidelines set in place by the Board of Directors and the Kingdom policies. Any failure to follow these rules and guidelines by any member of the populace will be met with swift action. If you feel you can not or will not follow these rules then please stay home, these rules are set in place to keep everyone as safe as possible. If you do not follow the rules you will be asked to leave the event. If you refuse to leave the event the event will be canceled and closed immediately. This is not something that We say lightly and without much consideration. We are not willing to risk the life of a single member of this great Kingdom. Please remember that the event staff and officers are volunteers who are giving of their time and energy so that we may all come together and have fun. Do not make their jobs any harder than they already are.
With the restrictions put in place by the Board of Directors, most notably no overnight camping and an attendance cap of 150 people, We have made the decision to postpone Batttlemoor until 2022. This was not an easy decision to make but We feel it is for the best for the Outlands to do so at this time. We want to say thank you to the autocrat staff, the members of the BAM, and all Our officers who have continued to work so very hard to try and find a way to make Battlemoor happen in 2021. We appreciate all that you have done and continue to do for the Outlands! You have Our undying gratitude and support. We know that when Battlemoor does happen it will be epic and a fantastic display of Outlands hospitality and revelry.
We are near the end of out time apart. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and We are so looking forward to being able to see all of you again in person. Please stay the course. Continue to social distance, practice good hygiene, and wear your masks. Continue to reach out and check on friends and neighbors to make sure they are well physically and mentally. Be mindful that we can not always see the stress that we are under and be kind in your interactions with others. We are proud of how the Outlands has handle things these many months. You have cared for each other; you have been kind and you have lifted each other up so many times. It has truly been inspiring to witness the care and love you all have shown each other. Our hearts are bursting with pride because of how you all have risen to the occasion. Thank you for proving that the Outlands is the greatest Kingdom in the Known World!
We can not wait to see you all again!
In Service to the Outlands We remain,
Béla Nerissa
King Queen
From the Seneschal - Reopening policy 3/28/2021

FACTORS CONSIDERED BEFORE REOPENING
·Kingdom and Local groups will use all available information to make data-driven decisions to begin in person activity. Decisions to begin to resume in person activity will be informed by whether the state or community in which the group is located has met their criteria for opening to the appropriate level, and current CDC guidelines.
·The Kingdom and local groups will put in place a system for reporting any infections before reopening.
·Local groups will work with the Kingdom Seneschal to determine if they can open and what the COVID19 gathering precautions, reporting, and tracking requirements will be.
PHASES OF REOPENING (If we do not take the strictest local group gathering limit)
For the purpose of this document, practices are reoccurring regular gatherings. Events are gatherings held one time.
GATING PERIOD- There will be no official in person activities.
PHASE ONE- Masks and social distancing of 6 feet will be required in accordance with the local mandates. Before any meeting of any kind is allowed, the local Seneschal will petition the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal to hold gatherings. Before any single gathering is held local Seneschal will let the Kingdom Seneschal or deputy know what the current local mandated gathering requirements are. At the gathering, the local Seneschal or their representative will take the temperature of attendees, ask if they have had any flu like symptoms, and gather the name and contact information of attendees for contact tracing purposes. They will also let attendees know that they are to report back as to their health. If anyone has flu-like symptoms within the next 2 weeks, they should report them to the local Seneschal so that they can contact trace. Local Seneschals will write a COVID19 report and send it to the Kingdom Seneschal bimonthly.
·Outdoor Practices: Local Seneschals can petition the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal to open in person practice. Practices will be allowed when the local (based on where the practice is held) guidelines allow for gatherings twice the average of before COVID19 practice.
- This 2X requirement may change as we get a feel for how many people are wanting to attend, and is in place to ensure that local gathering limits are not exceeded. If the gathering hits the mandated gathering limit, the local seneschal or their representative will shut down the practice. They will NOT split the practice into pods or groups.
- Here is an example of how the 2X limit will work for clarity: if Caer Galen petitions the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal they will wait until gathering limits are 2X their prior to COVID19 numbers. For example if before COVID19, the average practice was 20 people, they will wait until the local gathering limits are 40 people.
·Indoor Practices: Small indoor gatherings of 10 people or less will be allowed, if permissible by local mandat3. If the gathering hits the legal gathering limit, the local seneschal or their representative will shut down the practice.
·Events: No events will be held.
PHASE TWO- Masks and social distancing of 6 feet will be required in accordance with CDC or local guidance. The local Seneschal will notify the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal that their group will be holding practices. They will petition the Kingdom Seneschal to hold events. Before any single gathering is held local Seneschals will let the Kingdom Seneschal or deputy know what the current legal gathering requirements are. At the gathering, the seneschal or their representative will take the temperature of attendees, gather their names, and contact information of attendees for contact tracing purposes. They will also let attendees know that they are to report back as to their health. If anyone has flu-like symptoms within 2 weeks, they should report to the local Seneschal so that they can contact trace. Local Seneschals will write a COVID19 report monthly, and send it to the Kingdom Seneschal.
·Outdoor Practices: Local Seneschals can open in person practice. Practices will be allowed when the local (based on where the practice is held) mandates allow for numbers sufficient to practice. If the gathering hits the legal gathering limit, the local seneschal or their representative will shut down the practice. They will NOT split the practice into pods or groups.
·Indoor Practices: Gathering will be allowed when the local (based on where the gathering is held) mandatess allow for numbers sufficient to gathering. If the gathering hits the indoor gathering limit, the local seneschal or their representative will shut down the practice.
·Events: When local guidelines allow, small events of 150 or less will be allowed. Based upon the local mandates.
PHASE THREE- The same as PHASE TWO, except larger events will be held with social distancing, masks, and any other COVID19 precautions required by guidance. The Crown and Kingdom Seneschal does not need to be petitioned to hold practices or events. Sign-in and reporting requirements as stated above will continue on a monthly basis.
FULLY OPEN- In person meetings and events of any size are allowed as long as local and state government mandates are met. COVID 19 precautions such as masks and social distancing will not be required.

Announcement about re-authorizations
- Details
Hail to The Mighty Outlands!
Though it seems like it has been forever since we have all met on the field of battle, the horns of battle will sound again. Though we do not have a certain date of when, we warriors of The Outlands must stand vigilant for that day when it comes. As such, we will be working hard to address the situation of expired fighter authorizations, across all martial activities, so that when this plague has ended, we can all get right back to doing what we love.
First and foremost, we will be changing the colors of authorization cards, so that there is no confusion about what is up to date and what is expired. As such, everyone will be needing a new card, which we will be happy to take care of for you as follows depending on your current Authorization:
Group A) If your authorization, be it Heavies, Lights, or Equestrian, expired prior to March of 2020, you will need to reauthorize as normal. We will be addressing authorizations in the coming months, so look forward to that news when it comes out, but for now, please send us pictures of your expired card so that we can get you into the new system just like the other the other groups.
Group B) If your Authorization expired during the shutdown (between March 2020 and May 2021) you can send us a picture (front and back) or your expired authorization card and a picture (front and back) of your membership card and we will get you renewed in the system and get the newly updated cards out to you! Please be sure to include a mailing address in your email so we can get you the new card!
Group C) For any whose Authorizations will still be good by the time of reopening, you will have three months after we reopen to get reauthorized before your card expires, regardless of the date printed on the card. You can do that now if you like by following the rules for Group B, or after we reopen.
To any who are interested in being Authorizing Marshals on the reopening, please email the Earl Knight Marshal with a petition and we will be in contact with you! There will be many changes coming to make our authorization system easier, more efficient, and most of all safer for us all.
Emails should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for both Authorizing Marshal Petitions and Reauthorizations.
Thank you all for your efforts in making this a smooth transition. Stay safe, keep fighting, and we will see you all sooner than you think.
OUTLANDS!!!!
Sir Adrien De Calais KEM
