Greetings Gentle Cousins,

Yahoo Groups participation has gone down since folks are migrating to social media for most of their mailing lists. Another problem that keeps folks off Yahoo is the way it is constantly spreading viruses to members of the mailing lists. On the other hand, many people simply are not interested in joining, or can't join FB.

Probably the biggest issue is that on both Facebook and Yahoo, many of the special interest groups were created by individuals, rather than Local Groups. So when people lose interest or die, those groups can no longer be managed, and some of these groups are in competition with the Local Groups Official social media page. For this reason, I have been encouraging Local Groups to create accounts for their groups that belong to the group rather than individuals and see if they can migrate the users from the groups that have been abandoned by their creators.

It begins to cause frustration and confusion when the group begins to get fractured with some communications coming in one way and other communications coming in another way.

Folks are going to continue ignoring the Official Venues and just do what is convenient in their own minds. We can't make them use one thing or another, we can just encourage them to use the Official Venues and hope for the best.

The Kingdom is therefore providing a venue for Special Interest Groups on the new Kingdom Website.

I have created a Forum for each of the popular FB and Yahoo groups I could find. If your group is not listed, please contact me and I'll be happy to create a forum for it.

I am also willing to create Forums for Local Groups, such as al-Barran. All I need is somebody who is responsible (probably the local Seneschal or Special Interest Group Officer) to request it.

The Kingdom Forums have the advantage of being a Kingdom property hosted privately on the Kingdom servers with no advertising, no personal info gathering, and no spreading of viruses. It is open to the public for reading and open for posting to any registered user, it also has convenient search tools. In addition, we receive metrics on what posts are most popular, etc., which can guide our Kingdom Service and Recruitment efforts. As fads change and people migrate from one social media platform to another, we have the ability to keep everything stored on the Kingdom Servers as archives for future reference, mitigating the loss of info on the other venues.

I encourage you to check out the Kingdom Forums located here:
prototype.outlands.org/index.php/outlands-forum

Also accessible on the main menu of any page of the new website.

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance. My Office is ever at your service.

Greetings!

Fixed an issue with the Seneschal Reports form processor where it was only sending to the Kingdom Seneschal.

Reprogrammed the form to automatically route the report to the proper North/South Seneschal addy with a CC: to the Kingdom Seneschal.

I invite you to test it out (I have tested it, but would be best if it was double-checked.. I like people to "sign off" on what I have done before I consider it finished).

Thanks!

** Call for Articles **

Greetings!

We are seeking articles that promote the various activities we do in the SCA and the Outlands. These articles will be used on the Kingdom Website to promote the various activities, and as a way for search engines to key in on us better. Your name will be listed in the byline and you will earn the gratitude of the Kingdom.

Write about what brought you to a certain SCA activity, why you love it, and so forth. I will lightly edit it for web use, and post the best essays.

Some ideas are: Fighting, Archery, various A&S topics, bardic, Court Dancing, camping, feasting, gaming, etc.

Send your articles to my attention: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The new site is nearly complete- your article could help put on the finishing touches!

Thanks!
